Project Duration
The estimated duration for completing this project was two months.
The Problem
The core problem identified was that language learners often struggle to find a comprehensive language learning platform that offers a variety of learning options, focuses on practicality, and provides an enjoyable learning experience. Existing platforms either lacked certain features or failed to meet the specific needs of different types of language learners. This resulted in frustration, limited progress, and disengagement from the learning process.
The Goal
The goal of this case study was to analyze the existing user experience on Englishcafe and propose design improvements that address the identified problem. By doing so, we aimed to enhance user satisfaction, improve engagement, and increase the effectiveness of language learning on the platform.
My Role
As the UX designer on this project, my role was to conduct user research, analyze user behavior and feedback, and propose design solutions that align with the needs and goals of the users. I collaborated with the product and development teams to ensure the implementation of the proposed design improvements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct user research to gain insights into user preferences, pain points, and expectations.
- Analyze user behavior and feedback to identify areas for improvement in the existing user experience.
- Propose intuitive design solutions that enhance the usability and effectiveness of the platform.
- Collaborate with the product and development teams to ensure the successful implementation of design improvements.
Understanding the User
User Research
To gather user insights and understand their needs, the following UX research methods were employed:
- Surveys: A survey was conducted to gather quantitative data on user preferences, satisfaction levels, and pain points related to language learning platforms.
- Interviews: In-depth interviews were conducted with a sample of Englishcafe users to gain qualitative insights into their motivations, experiences, and challenges.
- User Testing: Usability testing sessions were conducted to observe user interactions with the platform and identify usability issues.
Summary
Based on the user research findings, the majority of Englishcafe users were motivated by the desire to gain confidence in their language skills, enhance their travel experiences, and open up job opportunities. Users appreciated the practical and enjoyable nature of the classes offered by Englishcafe, as well as the positive ratings and testimonials highlighting the effectiveness of the platform.
Pain Point
The main pain point identified was the lack of a comprehensive language learning platform that caters to different types of learners and offers a variety of learning options. Users expressed the need for a platform that combines group classes, conversation classes, one-to
one classes, language immersion experiences, and classes for kids and teenagers. They found it challenging to find a single platform that provides all these options while maintaining practicality, effectiveness, and an enjoyable learning experience.
